Replies usually within a day or two. Include your iPhone model, iOS version and what the screen showed when it went wrong. The Contact us row in Settings fills in the details for you.

Common questions

Latlas needs an internet connection, because the imagery comes from Google rather than from inside the app. If a round sits on a dark screen, check your connection first. If it keeps happening on a good connection, tell us roughly when it happened.

No. The locations are built into the app, but the pictures are not - every panorama is fetched from Google when the round starts.

Every day there is one numbered challenge, the same five places for everyone. Missed days can be caught up from the archive. Your streak counts days played in a row; giving up a daily part-way breaks it.

Whatever pin is on the map when time runs out is submitted. With no pin, the round scores nothing. The clock does not start until the panorama has appeared, so a slow connection does not eat your thinking time, and it keeps running while the map is open.

Game history is kept on your iPhone. Your daily-challenge progress and streak also sync through your own iCloud account if you are signed in, and Game Center keeps your leaderboard scores and achievements under your Game Center name. Without iCloud, history lost with a phone cannot be restored - there is no account and no server of ours holding a copy.

Bests are kept separately for each time limit. A score set with no clock is not the same achievement as one set under thirty seconds, so they are not compared.

It should not. If you ever see the name of the place while a round is still being played, that is a bug worth reporting - tell us what you saw and roughly where the round turned out to be.

Yes, in Settings. The game also respects the silent switch, and it never interrupts music or a podcast you already have playing.

Locations come from places with official Street View coverage, which means plenty of empty road. That is the game: a stretch of nothing still tells you which part of the world you are in, if you read it carefully.

No. Latlas is free, with no ads and no purchases in this version. The daily challenge and free play will never be put behind a paywall.

Yes: turn on New challenge alerts in Settings. The reminder is scheduled on your iPhone, not sent from a server, and can be turned off there or in the iPhone Settings app.

How to write a bug report that gets fixed

Three things make a bug fixable: what you did, what you expected, and what happened instead. Write those three lines and you are ahead of most professional QA.

Add your device model and iOS version — Settings, General, About — and a screenshot or screen recording if the bug is visible. A recording of a crash is worth five paragraphs describing one.

One report per email, please. Two bugs in one email means the second one gets lost, and it deserves better.
